Got My Kindle 2
I received my Kindle 2 on the same day Amazon’s Kindle for iPhone is launched on the App Store.
I tried the app, and let me say this: While Kindle.app is great for people like me who don’t live in the US (reading sample books requires Whispernet [Sprint EVDO] connection), the reading experience is miles, miles away from the real device. I love reading on Kindle 2 way better than on my iPhone.
The device isn’t perfect. The UI is far inferior than that of iPhone. Its information architecture has inconsistencies. And it’s slow—good for reading, but not for impatient browsing, skimming or page flipping. From Amazon’s own advertising, this device is designed with a totally different set of market in mind. That is, not us young (or no longer young but pretending so), impatient, gadget-loving geeks. It’s designed for people who read, a lot, or at all.
I’d already bought a few books even before my device arrived. The device is going to be a big saver since I buy more hard-cover books these days. I don’t have to worry about storage now. In fact, I’m even seriously considering giving away or selling many of my paper books.
I’m in love with reading books again.
